Looking for a place to keep current in the world of SEC reporting? Want to know what is happening so that you won’t be surprised? Want to keep out of trouble with the SEC and PCAOB? Then you are at the right Blog!
The world of SEC reporting changes constantly. The SEC Corporation Finance staff proactively identifies and deals with complex and emerging issues in the review process and rulemaking. Accounting and auditing standards continue to evolve at the FASB and PCAOB. The SEC Enforcement Division consistently brings cases that send important messages.
Our SEC Institute Blog is a meeting place for SEC reporting professionals, including lawyers, company accountants, and auditors, to keep up to date with all these challenges. It will help your reporting process deal with change and provide thoughtful discussion about what constitutes effective reporting practices.
The contributors to this blog are SEC Institute workshop leaders who have been involved in the SEC reporting world for decades, Bob Laux and George Wilson.
Bob leads our Midyear and Annual Forums and teaches programs on SEC reporting and financial accounting topics. Previously, Bob was the North American Lead for the International Integrated Reporting Council. Bob also spent 16 years at Microsoft Corporation, most recently as the Treasury Controller. Prior to joining Microsoft, Bob was an Industry Fellow at the FASB where he was responsible for coordinating the activities of the Emerging Issues Task Force. And, prior to joining the FASB, Bob spent eight years at General Motors.
George leads programs on SEC reporting and financial accounting topics. He has also developed Institute workshops in a variety of technical areas, including revenue recognition and accounting for derivative instruments. Before joining the SEC Institute, George was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting at the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He was director of the University’s Accounting MBA program and also taught in the undergraduate accounting department. He has received the AICPA’s Outstanding Discussion Leader Award and the Minnesota State Society’s R. Glenn Berryman Award.
