{"id":1426,"date":"2019-01-03T08:46:06","date_gmt":"2019-01-03T13:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/seci.wpenginepowered.com\/?p=1426"},"modified":"2019-01-03T08:46:06","modified_gmt":"2019-01-03T13:46:06","slug":"preparing-for-year-end-2018-number-four-begin-considering-integrated-reporting-for-long-term-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seciblog.pli.edu\/index.php\/preparing-for-year-end-2018-number-four-begin-considering-integrated-reporting-for-long-term-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Preparing for Year-End 2018: Number Four \u2013 Begin Considering Integrated Reporting for Long-Term Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this fourth post of our series discussing issues\u00a0for year-end planning consideration, we are suggesting an area where you can start now to begin creating momentum for change.\u00a0In his speech at the annual SEC\/FASB\/PCAOB conference, AICPA Chair Barry Melancon highlighted integrated reporting.\u00a0Sustainability and integrated reporting were also the focus of a disclosure panel at the conference.<\/p>\n<p>You can find some background about integrated reporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aicpa.org\/interestareas\/businessindustryandgovernment\/resources\/sustainability\/integratedreporting.html\">on the AICPA\u2019s webpage<\/a>\u00a0and on the <a href=\"http:\/\/integratedreporting.org\/\">International Integrated Reporting Council\u2019s webpage<\/a>.\u00a0 In addition, <a href=\"http:\/\/integratedreporting.org\/news\/integrated-reporting-in-the-united-states\/\">this blog post<\/a>\u00a0by Bob Laux at the IIRC, who is also a Director here at SEC Institute, provides a valuable perspective.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC raised the issue of disclosures about ESG matters in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/rules\/concept\/2016\/33-10064.pdf\">2016 Regulation S-K Concept Release<\/a>and many companies have begun to make disclosures in the move towards the goal of communicating information\u00a0to present a more complete and transparent picture of performance, utilization of resources, and ability to create value over the long term.\u00a0This <a href=\"https:\/\/seciblog.pli.edu\/?p=1098\">2017 post<\/a>has some real company example disclosures.<\/p>\n<p>Research shows that almost all of the Fortune 500 companies are making some level of sustainability disclosures.\u00a0 A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ga-institute.com\/press-releases\/article\/flash-report-85-of-sp-500-indexR-companies-publish-sustainability-reports-in-2017.html\">report from the Governance and Accountability Institute<\/a>\u00a0states that 85% of the Fortune 500 companies make a sustainability report.<\/p>\n<p>With all this activity surrounding integrated Reporting our suggestion is to put this topic on your disclosure agenda, and as you work through year-end begin to think of areas where it would be appropriate for your company and your financial statement users to begin providing incremental information.<\/p>\n<p>As always, your thoughts and comments are welcome!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this fourth post of our series discussing issues\u00a0for year-end planning consideration, we are suggesting an area where you can start now to begin creating momentum for change.\u00a0In his speech at the annual SEC\/FASB\/PCAOB conference, AICPA Chair Barry Melancon highlighted integrated reporting.\u00a0Sustainability and integrated reporting were also the focus of a disclosure panel at the &hellip;
